Moke Hill Community Garden Reboot

The Community Garden at the historic Marredda Park is fully fenced thanks to weeks of volunteer labor donated by Goliath Hooe and Dave LaGrande as well as donated materials from Senders in Valley Springs.  Together David and Goliath built a formidable fence that will protect our growing vegetables from wandering deer and other hungry herbivores.  Earlier this year the Veterans District re-established water service to the garden which along with the fence is invaluable for successful gardening.

Many local community members in addition to David and Goliath have contributed to the development of this garden space including Charlie Blazer, Gwen Barnes, Aaron  Adomeit, Rich Kingsmill, Sam Chastain, Nic Compton, Rachel Hines, and Miles May.

Finally, a special thank you to the Mokelumne Hill Elementary afterschool students for planting pumpkins, tomatoes, melons, beans, artichokes, and corn while thoroughly enjoying every moment!

Please visit the garden this summer and consider volunteering any way you can including cash donations to the Veterans’ District.  Our intent is to create a community garden managed by locals and open to all that provides nourishing fruits and vegetables.  There are still loads of weeds to wrestle and infrastructure to build so come on down!
