No More Zooming!! We are meeting in the LIBRARY!
July 6, 2021, 7 PM. The Midnight Library, byMatt Haig. In the space between life and death is a library filled with books representing all the different lives one could have lived if different choices were made. Norah Seed – finding herself in this limbo — is allowed to sample these different outcomes, to examine old regrets, and to choose which life she wants to continue. But things are not always how she imagined them, and the exercise both poises danger and requires examination of the ultimate question: What is the best way to live?
August 3, 2021, 7 PM. Certain Prey, by John Sandford. Here is a chance to sample a fast paced, intelligent, and humor-filled mystery series. A bestselling mystery writer with some 50 books published, Sandford’s tales can become addictive. Certain Prey is #10 out of the “Prey” series featuring Lucas Davenport, a government sleuth (independently wealthy) who specializes in solving the most difficult cases. Here he tracks hit-woman Clara Rinker who is both ruthless and formidably intelligent. Those who want to read the books in order can begin with Rules of Prey (1989).
September 7, 2021, 7 PM. H is for Hawk, by Helen Macdonald. When Helen Macdonald’s father died suddenly on a London street, she was devastated. An experienced falconer since her youth, she undertook the training of a goshawk –notoriously fierce and independent – as a way to assuage her grief. Helen adopted Mabel and relates the progress of their relationship through parallel stories of classic historical accounts and the natural world of this extraordinary bird. Told with humor and humility, the memoir is an outstanding blend of nature writing, personal healing, and literary adventure.
