December 4, 2018. The Dry, by Jane Harper.  Amid the worst drought to ravage Australia in a century, Federal Police investigator, Aaron Falk, reluctantly returns to his hometown for the first time in decades to investigate the death of his childhood best friend, Luke. Twenty years ago, Falk was accused of murder and Luke provided a steadfast alibi. But now more than one person knows that this was not the truth. As Falk investigates Luke’s death, long-buried mysteries resurface along with the lies surrounding them. The Dry is a breathless page-turner with revelations on every page.

January 8, 2018. A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived, by Adam Rutherford.  Since scientists first read the human genome in 2001, it has been subject to all sorts of claims, counterclaims, and myths. Rutherford explains that DNA determines far less than we have been led to be believe about us as individuals, but vastly more about us as a species. In this captivating journey from Neanderthals to murder, from redheads to race, and from dead kings to plague, Rutherford paints an illuminating new portrait of who we are and how we came to be.

February 5, 2018.  Less, by Andrew Sean Greer. Arthur Less is a failed novelist about to turn fifty. A wedding invitation arrives in the mail announcing that his boyfriend of the past nine years is engaged to someone else. To avoid the event, Less accepts a series of invitations to half-baked literary events around the world.  He will almost fall in love in Paris, almost fall to his death in Berlin, and barely escape to a Moroccan ski chalet from a Saharan sandstorm.  Somewhere in there: he will turn fifty. NY Time Book Review:  “..Hilarious Pulitzer Prize-winning novel full of arresting lyricism and beauty.
