Moke Hill READS Book Club

Moke Hill READS:  next meeting Tuesday November 1, 7 PM, Moke Hill Library/Archive

Book: Whisky, Tango, Foxtrot (The Taliban Shuffle), by Kim Barker.

Memoir of a journalist in post 9/11 Afghanistan and Pakistan.  As Barker grows from awkward newbie to seasoned reporter, she offers an insider’s account of the region’s “forgotten war” at a time when all eyes were turned to Iraq. Candid, self-deprecating, and laugh-out-loud funny, Barker shares both her affection for the absurdities of these two hapless countries and her fear for their future stability.

December 6thThe Cookoo’s Calling, by Robert Galbraith. . A brilliant mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel’s suicide.  First in a new series, this case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers.

January 4thThe Oregon Trail: A New American Journey, by Rinker Buck. An epic account of traveling the 2,000-mile length of the Oregon Trail the old-fashioned way—in a covered wagon with a team of mules.  Simultaneously a majestic journey across the West, a significant work of history, and a laugh-out-loud masterpiece.
