Book: The Island Beneath the Sea, by Isabel Allende

The latest novel from this award-winning author, her epic tale travels from the sugar plantations of Saint-Domingue to the lavish parlors of New Orleans at the turn of the 19th century.  The life of the slave Tété becomes intertwined with that of her plantation owner over four tumultuous decades. This is the saga of an extraordinary woman determined to find love amid loss and forge her own identify under cruel circumstances.
