The Mokelumne Hill History Society

The Mokelumne Hill History Society was founded in 1985 to preserve and promote the history of Mokelumne Hill. The Society shares a downtown building with the Mokelumne Hill Branch Library, where it houses the town’s Archives and displays artifacts and documents related to the town’s history.

Over 1,000 photographs have been cataloged by topic, scanned and placed in acid-free binders for long-term curation. A computer data base allows researchers to find images of individuals and locations on the Archive’s computer. Original store ledgers, diaries, and minutes of early community groups are archived, along with more recent town memorabilia. We keep track of the town’s history and conduct oral histories with our elders. Recently, we’ve begun sharing some of this online.

Please visit the History section for more.

We’ve also posted the Mokelumne Hill Cemetery database online at www.calaverashistory.org – click the link that says Cemetery Project.

A small group of dedicated History Society researchers meets Wednesday afternoons, and is always looking for more information and volunteers. Please contact us via the site, or write the Society at PO Box 267, Mokelumne Hill 95245.
